2008 Feedback

Over 360 children attended Get Safe 4 Summer 2008 at the Duston School Pool organised by Northamptonshire County Councils schools swimming team.

The event involved 18 schools over four days and attracted support from Gordon Brown and Caitlin McClatchey - aiming to teach Year 5 and 6 pupils about water safety and what to do in an emergency.

The day was divided into a range of activities allowing children to learn the importance of water safety and survival skills.

At lunch time they all had the opportunity to look around various vehicles from the emergency services.

Children were then given a presentation on how to stay safe when out and about and how to avoid being a target of crime by Singy Banniuk, the school based police officer at Duston School. The afternoon ended with a competition with the chance of winning a ticket to the local cinema by designing a water safety poster.

Every child left with a certificate and a goody bag full of items donated by local companies and organisations.

All the participants learned improtant life skills and we are looking forward to Get Safe 4 Summer 2009.

"
Just thought I’d let you know that we had a very successful Get Safe 4 Summer day at Leominster Leisure Centre last week. Everyone had a really good day, and we received some very positive feedback from both pupils and school teachers.

We are very keen to be one of your regional events next year, can you let me know if this would be possible?

Thank you
Julie

I would like to congratulate you and your staff on all the hard work you put in to make the day enjoyable for everyone. The Safe for Summer day was superbly resourced and full of fantastic ideas and events for the children and adult’s to enjoy. We had a marvellous time in assembly the following day describing the events we took part in and the various messages from the professional bodies there. The adults race was definitely a hit with the children! I think there are some keen water polo players that will be knocking on the door of Carn Brea Leisure Center very soon!

Again, hope to be booked in for next year ASAP.

Many Thanks

"I would just like to say a Thank You to you for yesterday. The day was a great success enjoyed by all. It is a fantastic event that ASA/RLSS etc do and really gets the message across to the children in a fun way. Can you please pass on my thanks to Adrian, he was a big hit… especially with the girls!! The final ‘swim off’ between Ros, Adrian and the 2 swim club girls really just rounded the day off beautifully also!"

"
I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and the team for your efforts in the coordination of the event. I know that a lot of effort went into the event and it was great to see the results. You can tell that the kids enjoyed themselves due to the enthusiasm in the Q&A session at the end. Earl has advised that the feedback has been extremely positive from the schools.

Please pass on my sincerest thanks to the two Synchro swimmers. I did not realise it was their first event and you would never have known!

I look forward to seeing the photographs, which we will maximise the publicity on."

"Skegness has today (Wednesday 24th June) hosted England's biggest water safety event ever with over 800 young people from across the East Midlands attending. The programme included an off-shore mock rescue operation with Martin Fisher from Calendar News being rescued by the RNLI from a dingy. Tower Esplanade was packed with interactive attractions covering 999 and coastal rescue services, giving people an insight into the dangers and skills needed to perform rescues at sea, as well as providing information on a safe environment for children.

I would like to thank the Beach Safety Team and everyone who made this event a resounding success.

Thanks"

Skegness Council Chairman

"As Mayor of Skegness I wish to thank you personally and your staff for a fantastic day.
This event must have taken quite a considerable time and effort to organize, and your expertise and professionalism certainly came into play as the day was enjoyed by all."

Cllr Neil Pimperton - Mayor of Skegness.

"Just a quick note to say thank you for the day you organised. Our students and staff had a wonderful time and acquired new knowledge and understanding of staying safe. Although I have an obvious connection with the Embassy Swimming Pool, I feel I must mention how organised and well delivered the sessions there were. Staff were polite and helpful and the venue itself was impeccably clean. This coupled with the friendly welcome we received at the Embassy Theatre helped to create a thoroughly enjoyable day."

Once again, many thanks

"A big thank you from Gipsey Bridge.  We had a great day all round and only one complaint was we didn't have time to do it all. A big well done to everyone who really made us welcome.

Thanks

"I write on behalf of the year 7 and year 8 pupils of Skegness Grammar School Sports College (all 220 of them) to acknowledge the very real efforts that went in to making the 'Get Safe 4 Summer' launch in Skegness the great success it was.

The detail that underlined all the planned events was readily apparent and everything ran so smoothly it enabled so many participants to sample all the events offered without fuss or undue delay.

The staff knew exactly what to expect and what they were doing and I know this doesn't just happen. It required endless hours of meticulous planning, trust in the team you employ and contingencies for everything.

The fact that there were no problems and that everything meshed seamlessly detracts from the complexity of the underlying planning. If nobody has any complaints there is a tendency to ignore the essence of the success.

So, I salute you and your team on a wonderful event, an excellent day and a lot of contented and more informed pupils. And what's more you even managed to order perfect weather!

Well done."
